Getting the right driver for your HP Smart Tank avoids missing scan buttons, WiFi discovery failures, and generic drivers that print slowly. Use either HP Smart or the full package from HP Support.
Easiest path: HP Smart
- Go to hp.com/setup or install HP Smart from Microsoft Store / App Store
- Power on the printer and connect USB or finish WiFi first
- Open HP Smart → Add printer → follow prompts for your model
- Print a test page when install completes
Full driver from HP Support
- Find your exact model on the printer label (for example Smart Tank 5100, 580, 720, 7600 series)
- On HP Support, enter that model → Software and Drivers
- Choose Windows or Mac and download the recommended full feature software (or basic driver if you only need print)
- Run the installer as Administrator on Windows; allow network discovery when asked
Clean reinstall if things are broken
- Remove the printer from Windows Settings or Mac Printers & Scanners
- Uninstall HP Smart / HP software from Apps & Features (Windows) or move apps to Trash (Mac)
- Restart the computer
- Reinstall from HP Support or HP Smart and re-add the printer
