Wireless setup is the most common hang-up on an HP Smart Tank. Wrong band, a mistyped password, or HP Smart on a different network usually explains it — not a dead radio.
Use 2.4 GHz for pairing
Most Smart Tank models join 2.4 GHz only. If your router uses one SSID for both bands, create a separate 2.4 GHz name or temporarily disable 5 GHz while you set up.
Reset wireless and run the wizard
- On the printer, open Wireless Settings or hold the WiFi button to restore wireless defaults (check your model panel)
- Run Wireless Setup Wizard, select your network, enter the password carefully
- Wait until the wireless light is steady — not blinking
- Print a network configuration page and note the IP address
HP Smart cannot find the printer
- Phone or PC must be on the same WiFi as the printer (not guest WiFi)
- Disable VPN on the device running HP Smart during setup
- Choose Add printer manually and enter the IP from the config page
- Move the printer closer to the router for the first connection
After a router change
New password or new router means the old WiFi profile is invalid. Re-run wireless setup, then remove and re-add the printer on each computer. General steps also apply in our HP printer WiFi guide.
USB works but WiFi does not
That points to network isolation or band mismatch, not ink or drivers. Confirm the printer IP responds to ping from your PC, then re-add the queue with that IP.
