Streaks and lines on an HP printer usually mean dirty rollers, a low or failing cartridge, or a worn drum/fuser — not a bad WiFi driver. Match the pattern to the printer type before replacing parts.
Inkjet streaks (DeskJet, Envy, OfficeJet)
- Run printhead cleaning from the printer panel or HP Smart, then print a nozzle check
- If one color is missing or banded, reseat that cartridge. See cartridge not recognized if the printer rejects it
- Wipe the carriage contacts with a lint-free cloth. Do not scrape the printhead nozzles
- Blank or washed-out pages after cleaning: blank pages fix
LaserJet streaks
- Vertical black line: often toner seal, drum scratch, or transfer roller dirt. Replace or reseat the cartridge; inspect the drum for gouges
- Repeating marks every few inches: measure the gap — it often matches the drum or fuser circumference (hardware wear)
- Light gray background: humidity, wrong paper type, or a near-empty cartridge
Clear trays and rollers if paper dust is heavy. Persistent jams that smear toner: jam clear.
