When an HP printer feeds paper but the page is blank, the cause is usually ink or toner, clogged printheads, or a driver setting — not a dead printer. Here is how to narrow it down by printer type.
Inkjet (DeskJet, OfficeJet, Envy)
- Check ink levels in HP Smart or on the printer display
- Run Print Quality Diagnostic or Clean Printhead from HP Smart
- Remove and reseat cartridges; ensure protective tape was removed from new cartridges
- Print a nozzle check pattern — if gaps appear, run another clean cycle
- Confirm you are not printing in draft mode with an empty tri-color cartridge
LaserJet blank pages
- Shake the toner cartridge side to side — low toner often prints faint then blank
- Remove toner, reseat it, and check for a sealing strip left on a new cartridge
- Run a supplies report from the printer menu to verify toner recognition
Driver and document checks
- Print a test page from Windows or Mac printer properties — not from an app
- Try a different document; corrupted PDFs can send blank output
- Disable "Print in grayscale" or toner-save modes temporarily
- On Mac, check for duplicate HP queues sending to the wrong driver
