Your HP printer looks ready — green light, no error — but pages never come out. Usually the job is stuck, the wrong printer is selected, or the connection dropped. Try these fixes in order.
1. Clear the print queue
Windows: Settings → Printers → your HP printer → Open queue → cancel all jobs. If they will not cancel, restart the Print Spooler (see our spooler fix guide).
Mac: System Settings → Printers & Scanners → your printer → Open Print Queue → delete pending jobs.
2. Confirm the right printer is default
Many "nothing prints" cases are really printing to Microsoft Print to PDF or an old duplicate HP entry. Set your active HP printer as default and try again.
3. Run a test page from the printer
Print a configuration or test page from the printer panel (not the computer). If that works, the problem is on the PC side — driver or queue. If it fails, focus on the printer — paper, error code, or connection.
4. Check connection
- USB: Reseat the cable; try another port
- WiFi: Confirm printer and PC share the same network; re-add the printer if the IP changed
- Offline: See fix printer offline
5. Update or reinstall the HP driver
- Remove the printer from Windows or Mac settings
- Download the latest driver from HP Support or use HP Smart
- Re-add the printer and print a test page
