When an HP inkjet prints but one color is missing — often cyan, magenta, or black text — start with a nozzle check. A blank color channel is ink flow or a clog, not a WiFi problem. LaserJets that look “faded” are a toner issue, not a color nozzle.
Confirm which color failed
- Print a nozzle check or print-quality page from the panel or HP Smart
- If one color’s pattern is blank, note that cartridge. Reseat it and check the vent tape was removed on a new cartridge
- Run one cleaning cycle, then another nozzle check. More than two cleanings in a row wastes ink
- If the cartridge is reported empty but looks full, see level errors separately. A rejected cartridge is covered in cartridge not recognized
Clog versus empty supply
- Streaks in every color: streaks and lines, often rollers or a dirty printhead
- Whole pages blank: blank pages
- One color only, after a long idle period: dried nozzles. A single clean cycle plus a nozzle check is the right test
- Smart Tank: confirm that chamber was filled and primed — Smart Tank print quality
