HP printer event 69552 is a Windows / HP diagnostic event, not a classic LaserJet 49.xx LCD code. HP Support Assistant, Print and Scan Doctor, or the driver helper logs it when a status query fails — printer asleep, wrong IP, or HP’s background service hung.
It often shows up next to event 74899. Fix communication first; do not replace cartridges because of 69552 alone.
Confirm the printer is actually reachable
- Print a test or configuration page from the printer buttons. If that fails, this is hardware or a panel error — use HP error codes, not Event Viewer
- If the panel page works: USB — reseat the cable. Network — ping the IP from the config page
- Disable sleep / auto-off in the printer settings while you test. A printer that sleeps in 5 minutes will throw 69552 every time HP software polls
HP services on the PC
- Open Services (
services.msc) and restart Print Spooler - If HP Support Assistant and HP Print and Scan Doctor are both installed, keep one diagnostic tool. Two agents polling a sleeping printer fill the Application log with 69552
- In Task Manager, end stuck HPUpdate or HPDeviceCommunication processes, then open HP Smart once and let it refresh status
Spooler loops: HP print spooler error. Nothing coming out: HP printer not printing.
Network printers and 69552
After a router restart the printer DHCP address changes. HP software still queries the old IP and logs 69552. Remove the queue, add by the new IP, or reserve a DHCP lease for the printer MAC. Same class of failure as a printer that looks offline in Windows.
When to call
If 69552 continues with a reserved IP, a known-good USB cable, and only one HP helper app, the printer NIC or USB controller may be failing. We can check the log and the config page with you. Call (888) 423-7757 — available 24/7.
