An HP printer “door open” or “close door” message means a cover sensor still reads open — even when the panel looks shut. Printing and scanning stay blocked until that switch closes.
Close what the sensor actually watches
- Open and firmly shut the front cartridge door until it clicks. On many DeskJet/Envy units the door must seat evenly on both sides
- Reseat the toner or ink cartridge, then close the door again — a tall cartridge or loose latch holds the door ajar
- Check the rear access door and duplexer. A rear door left slightly open triggers the same alert on LaserJet Pro models
- Look for paper tabs or a broken door hook. If the plastic latch is cracked, the sensor never closes
After the door closes
Clear any jam scraps near the door (see paper jam), then print a test page from the panel. If Windows still shows an error, restart the print spooler — spooler fix — or check error codes for a related cover code.
