HP AirPrint Not Working — iPhone and Mac Fix

If an HP printer prints from Windows but never appears in the iPhone or Mac share sheet, AirPrint discovery failed. The print engine is usually fine. The phone and printer are on different networks, or Bonjour is blocked.

Get AirPrint to appear

  1. Connect the iPhone or Mac to the same WiFi as the printer. Guest networks and VPNs hide AirPrint
  2. Use the 2.4 GHz network if the printer cannot join 5 GHz. Confirm the wireless icon is solid, then print a network configuration page
  3. On the printer, confirm AirPrint or Bonjour is enabled in network settings. Some OfficeJet menus list it under Web Services
  4. Restart the printer, then the phone. Open a photo → Share → Print and wait a few seconds for the list

When the printer never shows up

  • On Mac, add the printer in System Settings → Printers & Scanners using the IP from the config page, protocol IPP
  • Turn off AP isolation and client isolation on the router
  • A passphrase error during setup is not an AirPrint bug — see invalid WPA passphrase
  • If HP Smart on the phone also cannot see it, start with HP Smart cannot find printer
